Acupuncture is an ancient technique in which the practitioner inserts hair-thin needles into the body at specific points to prevent or treat illness. These energetic points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of 2000 years, and there are over 1000 known acupoints.
Like Chiropractic Care, Acupunture begins with a similar premise: TRUE WELLNESS comes from the inside > out! We are energetic beings as well as bio-mechanical ones... ALL the tissues of our body are alive with "vital life force" (otherwise we would be a cadaver: human tissue without life-force). Acupuncture assists in the balance and flow of this energy, called "Qi" (pronounced "Chee") in the Chinese tradition. The use of needles (or pressure, painless laser, or electrical stimulus if you are a needle-phobe!) helps to return the Qi of your body to optimal function.
Is Acupuncture safe? When performed by a licensed, competently-trained professional, Acupuncture is extremely safe! All licensed Acupuncturists today use individually packaged, single-use, sterile, disposable needles.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT:
From Dr. Ellen:
I currently accept new Acupuncture patients on a case-by-case basis. Surprisingly, I have found that often when people ask me about receiving Acupuncture treatment for their particular complaint, once I start speaking with them, it turns out that their complaint is of a bio-mechanical nature, or has a bio-mechanical component, that would be best treated with Chiropractic care, or treated with both Chiropractic and Acupuncture together. I encourage you to be open-minded if that might be my recommendation for you. Fortunately, at this office we can take care of both! Please call or email the office if you would like us to email you our detailed Acupuncture information sheet.
Acupuncture is actually just one part of the ancient art of Traditional Chinese Medicine dating back over 2000 years. The other two branches are:
Tui-na is treatment of the musculo-skeletal system through hands-on manipulation of the body by the practitioner. Sound familiar? Acupuncture treatment was always meant to go hand-in-hand with the care and treatment of the body and spine, and in our modern-day world, Chiropractors are the experts in that department!
I will always give you my best recommendation for treatment that I believe will give you the best and fastest results. On occasion I have even referred patients out to one of my local acupuncture colleagues if they might require more specialized expertise.
